Tired Wins

When I come home from work these days, I sit down in Casey’s chair and begin to doze- sometimes before dinner.  This third trimester fatigue seems much more intense than the fatigue of the first trimester.  I’m not too tired during the day, but once I get home, I’m done.

So, I’m going to take a little break from the blog, excluding Thursdays of course.  I’ll probably be back Monday.  In the meantime, I hope to use what energy I do have to think about what we need for baby and maybe plan some nursery projects.

Boys Enjoy Showers Too

We had our first baby shower yesterday.  It was a co-ed shower and was thrown for us by our friends who live in our building.  They did a great job making it so everyone, boys and girls, would have a good time.  Casey loved it and even though he said it was "the wife’s shower,” I think he felt honored to be there – especially with his cute little “Dad to Be” medallion.

The shower was held at another friend’s house and their living space and dining room were all decked out with balloons, baby boy decorations, and even a few baby pictures of Casey and I.

There were awesome favors: small bottles of wine for the ladies, cigars for the gents (which they didn’t wait to take home), and mints for all.

The cake was really cute and very tasty – it had a layer of cheesecake-like filling that was so yummy!

We didn’t expect much for gifts and were just glad for the celebration, but we’re so thankful for the loot we received.  It makes it more and more real every time we bring something for the little guy into the house!

Although I am super excited for my “ladies-only” showers, I am  glad Casey got to experience some of the congratulations and celebration.  His friends are great and everyone is really excited for our bundle of boy!

Swirly Turtle

100_4999

I was hoping to find a turtle stuffed animal for the baby and was so happy to find this big eyed softie while at the beach this weekend.  He’s kind of a colorful version of Squirt from Finding Nemo and it will be super sweet if he becomes a favorite of our little guy.

Oh What a Beautiful Weekend

The weather this weekend was absolutely gorgeous – perfect for our trip to the beach.  We got up early on Friday and made our way south, arriving just before lunch to quickly retrieve our parking pass for the hotel and head out to set up our spot in the sand.

All three days were spent pretty much the same, alternating between hanging out in our beach chairs, playing in the water, and grabbing food for the various mealtimes that passed while were out on the sand.

When early evening came and the cool breeze off the water brought goosebumps, we’d pack up and head in to get ready for dinner.  Friday night’s meal wasn’t the best – slow service and lackluster food – but the bar we went to after was fun (an exhibition of footvolley was quite impressive… minus the speedo shorts) and the places we ate dinner on Saturday and Sunday were very tasty.

It was an amazingly relaxing weekend.  We sat in our chairs and didn’t watch clocks, instead experiencing the passing of time through the location of our umbrella’s shadow.

I am so thankful to have had this weekend with Casey and it really was timed just right.  We enjoy each others company so much and love being just the two of us, but we are so excited to be three.  We look forward to bestowing our love of the beach and our joy of traveling to the little boy.  It will be a whole new awesome adventure to share with each other.

“Babymoon”

n15604272_32663054_391[1]

Casey and I are off to Virginia Beach for the weekend.  It could be considered our babymoon as it’s the last trip we’ll take to the beach, just the two of us.  I’m looking forward to baby, but I’m so thankful for the opportunity to take this “us” time before two become three.

Nest vs. Rest

P7120194

Here in the third trimester, with the numbers on the calendar dwindling towards due date, I find myself in a hard place.  The baby’s arrival is right around the corner and it’s causing my already high desire to nest and clean to be put into overdrive, while at the same time my energy levels are at an all time low.

So I struggle, coming home from work and sitting in a sleepy stupor, wondering if I’m really that tired or if I’m just being lazy.  And oh man, I do not like lazy.  So I begin to feel a bit bad that I’m not being productive.  And then I tell myself to hush, that even though I’m not very good at resting, I should do it anyways.

It’s been a back and forth in my head and although it is hard for me to maintain a good balance of rest without feeling like I’m a total slacker, I know I am capable of spreading out the work to keep from getting overwhelmed.  So I’ve made a list of my project priorities and will do the small ones in the evenings and save the larger items for the weekend, when Casey can help.

And on those days when I just feel like resting, I’ll remind myself that perfect is not what I’m going for, especially not when it requires overexerting and using up quality baby-building energy.  I’ll get things done before the little guy arrives and it will be the things that make the condo comfortable and cozy, welcoming and as prepared as possible for the time following him rocking our world.

Four Day Fourth

fourth3

I am completely tuckered out after an excellent four day weekend.  Casey had both Friday and Monday off and and I ended up taking the whole day off on Friday instead of just the morning for my doctor’s appointment – I was at the doctor’s office for over three hours (no results yet) and then came home and napped the afternoon away.

Casey played golf on Friday afternoon and then came home for dinner, after which we went to our friend’s condo here in our building.  In fact, we did that Saturday and Sunday nights too.  We sometimes eat dinner there, sharing responsibility for various food items, but this weekend we just went down to enjoy cards and company, plus our own fireworks show on Sunday night.

fourth1

Last night, for Fourth of July celebrations, we went to a friend of a friend’s house for a cook out.  The others played beer pong and later we all played corn hole until it was nearly dark, at which time we took a short walk to a local school’s athletic fields to watch the city’s fireworks and also enjoy those sent into the sky in various directions by local residents.

We didn’t get home until late last night, but I am thankful for such a fun and relaxed weekend.  It’s great to have friends to share good times with and as always Casey is my favorite person with whom to share any celebration… or make most any memory with for that matter.  I look forward to next year when we’ll not just hold each others hands but will likely hold them over little ears during the colorful night sky explosions.
