I’ve got a great list going. And I crossed quite a few things off yesterday. Small things so far, but it’s good to get those out of the way.
Today wasn’t particularly productive list-wise, but that’s okay. I didn’t sleep great last night and Abel was up early. So I napped during his morning nap and kept things pretty simple the rest of the day.
Not that I did nothing. And it’s important for me to recognize that. So many times I think about what I didn’t do and don’t look at what I have accomplished. Like today I may not have worked on my list items, but I did my daily tidying, made several batches of baby food, and did three loads of laundry.
As much as I want to be DOING the “list things,” I don’t want to overwhelm myself. That’s when things don’t get done, when I try to do too much - all of it at once! - and end up doing nothing. So some days it’s good to rest, to take a nap or watch a movie… or both, and get back to DOING the next day.
Also, as I mentioned above, I need to recognize what I put into each day – not just being intentional about tasks to begin with, but recognizing them when they’re completed. That just because things weren’t on a list, it doesn’t mean I’ve done nothing.
As with everything else, there’s a delicate balance. I’m practicing every day and things are always getting better. It’s important to be kind to myself and to rest up for all the activity of non-rest days. And of course, to always cherish each day, never taking my every days for granted… especially since they truly are fantastic!
