Monday, May 3

We slept in a bit on Monday morning, which is a blessing of being at your ultimate destination. After we got ready for the day, we had breakfast at the The Old Firehouse Restaurant, which is located below and is a part of the B&B we stayed at for the night.
The Restaurant is decorated with lots of firefighter items and the Creede Soap & Candle Company (owned by the wife of the B&B owner) is located upstairs. I bought some awesome body butters and I plan on ordering more when they run out!
Breakfast started with a cup of tea for me, coffee for Mum and Karen, and cookies all around. Not a bad way to start the morning! Mom followed her cookie with a breakfast burrito, my sister had the biggest breafkast sandwich we've ever seen, and I had eggs, toast, and hash browns. It was all delicious!
After breakfast, we checked out of the B&B and moved the rest of Karen's things to her housing. Below is the view from her porch and also from her bedroom window.
Then we walked around Creede for a bit, stopping at the local Ranger Station to check out some hiking maps (which Karen was going to return for) before browsing at some of the stores along Main Street- including Rare Things and San Juan Sports. We took some pics of Karen in front of her new place of work (well, the main theatre building- she'll actually be working in the shop about a mile away) before heading off in the car for some more adventure.
We started by driving up past Creede to where the Fire Department is located within the mountain.
And then to the Old Mining Museum, which is of course also located in the mountain. After the Mining Museum, we ventured out of Creede and decided to take a trip over Wolf Creek Pass. It only seemed right since Mom had downloaded the song and all.
One of the views on the way up...
A view from an overlook we stopped at (one of my favorite views of the whole trip!)...
Treasure Falls, where we stopped, took a little hike, and then turned around from to go back over the pass.
From the bridge after our little hike...
Going back down over the pass...
Almost back to Creede at about the spot we think the odometer hit 2000 miles the day before.
When we got back to Creede, we found that all the restaurants were already closed (it isn't busy season yet, and apparently Mondays are a day off day), so we bought salad supplies and some yummy rosemary bread for dinner at the Kentucky Belle Market, after which Mom and I had to head back to Co. Springs to stay the night before an early flight the next day.
