We woke up on Saturday morning at our hotel in St. Louis, got ready, ate breakfast at Einstein Bro's Bagels, and then headed out for our second day of driving.
Our first goal was to see the Gateway Arch, which we weren't sure was going to happen when we got outside and saw the fog. The Arch should actually be in this first picture, but it was so foggy that you couldn't see it at all... which is kind of unnerving seeing as it's a huge monument!
As we got closer, though, the fog started to lift and it was actually pretty cool to watch it become unveiled.
When we finally got right up to it, the fog completely lifted and the sun shone and reflected off the Arch. It was pretty awesome. (This next pic was taken as we were driving away)
We drove through Missouri until it was time for lunch, which this day was eaten in the car. PB&J, Goldfish, and a beverage = our staple meal for the trip.
Entering Kansas, which seems great because it's the last state we had to go through before Colorado, but let me tell you, things can get a little crazy in Kansas. Why, you might ask. Because it takes over eight hours to drive across Kansas and by the end of it, some people (ahem, Mum and then Karen) begin to get a little loopy.
Fortunately, there was a detour to be made in Kansas. We saw billboards for a museum off the beaten path and we took the below road to get there...
To Wamego, a small town that is home to the Oz Museum.
The town was small and out of the way, but it was a really great museum. It only seemed right when in Kansas to visit Dorothy and we really enjoyed the pit stop!
Back on the long, flat road we became entertained by various things... like windmills in all their futuristic glory marking the simple landscape by the hundreds.Tomorrow I'll share the adventures of Royal Gorge, where my sister flew, and the views from our last bit of driving from Co. Springs to the town of Creede, our ultimate destination.
