Use Your Eyeballs...

I'm writing this post from Vermont! I'm home for a long weekend. I was going to write this morning, but my short five hour work day went by gloriously fast and then it was time to get on the road!

I should probably just get to bed, but I need to get something off my chest, a bit of advice if you will. As I was driving home, I was going through an area where moose crossings are frequent... well, where there are warning signs for moose crossings. I was thinking it'd be neat to see one because I haven't seen one in a long time. I got really lucky and saw one in a swampy area right by the road.

I pulled over, grabbed my camera, and walked to where I could see a little better. Unfortunately, the lighting was really bad- it was just past dusk- and the pictures were crap. I tried a few times, got frustrated, and got back in the car without even really taking a good look at the moose with my plain old eyeballs, not through the lens.

As I got down the road a ways, I got even more frustrated. I basically said to myself, what the heck is wrong with you? Next time, don't let the opportunity pass you by to take a meaningful, thankful look at something just because you can't take a good picture. Look at it with your eyeballs and forget the camera!

So, when the fullish moon came shining over the hills as I got closer to home, I didn't reach for the camera, I just thanked God for a second opportunity to enjoy one of his majestic creations.

I often get caught up in using the camera and documenting things, but sometimes you just have to enjoy what's in front of you without interference. I know I need to do more of that, and I hope you're able to as well.
