A few weeks ago, I mentioned that my friend was thinking of having a burger cook-off party and that my entry would be a buffalo chicken burger. I practiced it once back when I mentioned it and I’ve practiced again tonight. Tonight was much more successful and whether the cook-off ever happens or not, Casey and I will enjoy this every now and then, perfecting it more and more as we go.
This time, I marinated the ground chicken in Ken’s Buffalo Sauce for the day, instead of just adding it before cooking like last time. When we got home, we crafted the burgers. We started with a Jucy Lucy style burger, with the blue cheese melted in the center of the patty. I preferred this. For the second one we cooked the patty and then put the blue cheese on the bottom bun. Casey preferred this.
In addition to the buffalo chicken patty and the blue cheese, we included Frank’s Red Hot on both buns, a couple slices of bacon, and a few pieces of crisp romaine. Oh, and the buns were sesame.
Overall, it’s a delicious sandwich. The main improvement we need to make is getting the chicken to have even more buffalo flavor, as well as more heat… flavor wise, of course, not temperature. We’re thinking next time we’ll add a couple drops of Tabasco or some Frank’s in the marinade in addition to the Ken’s Buffalo Sauce. If that doesn’t work, I’m not going to give up eating it, because it’s pretty tasty even without those improvements.
So, if you’re into trying it, here are the ingredients and basic directions in addition to the above description:
Ingredients: ground chicken, Ken’s Buffalo Sauce, Frank’s Red Hot, blue cheese crumbles, bacon, crisp romaine, and your choice of bun.
Instructions: Marinate the chicken in the buffalo sauce for the day. For the Jucy Lucy version of the patty, make one thin patty, top with blue cheese, then top with another patty and pinch the edges. For the regular patty, just create a patty out of the chicken. Grill the patties and when they’re about done, put the bun on the grill for a bit of toasting. When the patty and buns are done, sprinkle a little Frank’s Red Hot on the buns, add blue cheese (if making the plain chicken patty version) and the bacon on the bottom bun, place the patty on top of that, and romaine on top of that, then the top of the bun. With that, voila, it’s ready to enjoy!
