Missions.

As I said in my earlier post, after a hiatus as a slug I am ready to get serious about transforming my home into a comforting and wonderful place to live. I am on a quest to nest, but before I can really start to homey-fy my home, I've got to get all the clutter and mess out of the way. As I mentioned, I'm going to be using various techniques (for lack of a better word) from flylady.net. I was introduced to Fly Lady by my Mom when I first moved out on my own several years ago. Both she and at least one of my aunts use some of Fly Lady's suggestions in their homemaking routines. For right now, as a baby step, I am going to focus on Kelly's Missions. These missions are posted each day, by a Fly Lady named Kelly, in regards to the zone for the week (the list of zones can be found here and the specific details for the zone of the week can be found here). This week's zone is the master bedroom (and attached master bathroom if you have one). The mission for today was to clear off all the dressers in your master bedroom and any counters in your master bath. Here is how I did:

Dresser 1 Before:

Not a huge transformation, but better... Dresser 1 After:

Big business. Dresser 2 Before:

So much better! Dresser 2 After:

When clearing off the large dresser, I had to put away the things that were sitting there and some were things waiting for their place on the wall. Some of it got moved to the guest room, but as you can see, some of it found it's place.

It really is a great corner now. The frame on the right holds an amazing cross stitch that Hubby's Mom made us for a wedding gift. I white-washed the frame to fit better in the decor of our bedroom. (Please forgive the empty picture frames... baby steps, baby steps.)

In the bathroom, the counter was mostly cleared off already, so I did some decorating with items that needed to be moved from the dressers, including hanging the two pictures to the right of the mirrored medicine cabinet...

And I will be adding two "plates" (one in between and one at the top) once I get the mechanisms to hang such things.
FlyLady.net has a lot of great suggestions for getting a handle on clutter and I look forward to actually getting some of those suggestions built into my homemaking routine. And although I'll wait to do a lot of the nesting... okay, honestly, I'll only try to wait to do the nesting. But in reality, I'll do it as I go because I can't help myself. Either way, I'm going to be decluttering at least 15 minutes a day (more than likely more than that- I'm sorry what?- because I've gots to keep away from the TV!!!!!) and will be developing a way to make my home welcoming and comfortable for both the Hubby and I, and for those who better be visiting! :)
