The decorations are super simple at our house this year. And I kinda super love it. In an open living space like ours, things could get overwhelming. And with a toddler running around, I’m overwhelmed enough! So I thoughtfully chose what to put out and it’s equaled an uncluttered combination of twinkle and sentiment.
The dining table is simply adorned with candles and holly patterned napkin. Plus an awesome cloche ornament my Mom gifted me when she was here recently – even though it’s kind of a haphazard place for it, I’ve enjoyed seeing it when I sit there throughout the day.
By the entry is my beautiful creche. I’ve pared down what pieces I’m using to accommodate simplicity, and the small display space, but that doesn’t detract from it’s meaning.
I love how the cards we’ve received look hung on red yarn. It’s so easy to add onto when the mail arrives and it’s way more orderly than standing them up on the counter as I’ve done in past years.
In the living room space, our tree sparkles with layers of white and colored lights.
A set of snuggly bears (and a penguin!) take up one side of the love seat (when they’re not being cuddled by little buddy), while above them our stockings are draped with care.
I know it’s hard to notice much more than the huge TV, but the entertainment center is minimally adorned with a small village and some of my music box collection. I love the glow at night… and I mean from the village, not the TV!
My Godfather has given me a music box for Christmas for as long as I can remember. I had brought the Christmas themed ones down from Vermont this summer (though I had forgotten until I opened my Christmas storage!) and I was so happy to have just enough to fill up the entertainment center cubbies.
In Mr. Abel’s room, there is a little tree just for him. Next to it is an advent calendar. Every morning we open up the day’s door and hang an ornament on the tree and then read from the Advent book his Nana gave him. It’s a tradition I’m starting early and really look forward to doing as he gets older and has more understanding.
So that’s our home this Christmastime! I have really enjoyed the ease of this year’s décor and I can’t wait to put presents under the tree and enjoy Abel’s second Christmas!
(I planned to post about our decorations today and then happened to check The Nesting Place and found she was hosting a Christmas Tour of Homes, so I’m linking up over there. Feel free to go and check out some other decked out homes!)
