This year’s tree is short and is being held up straight by fishing line. But it’s got a great shape and I really think it’s one of my favorite trees to date.
There aren’t a lot of fragile ornaments this year, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t special ones. In fact, some of the most important, nostalgic ornaments we own aren’t breakable.
Which is good, because the first time Abel tried to hang an ornament, he pretty much just threw it at the tree. And then he laughed and proceeded to pick it up and gently place it in the lower branches.
It was so special to watch Casey fulfill his tradition of putting up the paired ornaments while Abel stood next to him and took it all in.
I loved hanging two generations of First Christmas ornaments side by side, one from last year and one from twenty-eight years ago.
And I smiled so big inside when Abel took a cue from the gold garland and brought out his own special adornment.
Three strings of lights, a twinkling combination of white and color. Thankfulness for sentimental ornaments that are also durable. Abel’s silhouette against the lighted tree. The seasonal glow I love so much. What a beautiful little tree.
