Home is...

They say that home is where the heart is. Well, my heart belongs to my husband and he's in Virginia, but I can tell you right now that Virginia is not my home. At least not in the soulful, peaceful sense. My soulful home is Vermont, through and through. I miss it every day. Now some people might tell me that I just miss the nostalgic Vermont of my growing up years, that if I lived there now that it just wouldn't be the same. Well I know it wouldn't be the same, but I also know that I can't get enough of being there. No visit is long enough and I can't wait to someday move back and be close to my family and bestest friends... it's going to happen no matter what my resistant husband says! :)Until that glorious move comes, I will be thankful for any trip I am able to take up there. As soon as we pull into my parents driveway, I swear stress just lifts off of my shoulders and evaporates into the wonderfully clean air of the "country." It's a feeling I rarely, if ever, have when I'm in my Virginia "home."
The latest trip, over Memorial Day weekend, was fantastic. Hubs and I drove up on Thursday afternoon/evening and were blessed with a minimal amount of traffic, especially for a holiday weekend.
On Friday we washed and waxed my car and then had lunch at his parents' house with some of his family, including his sister who was visiting from Cleveland. Below is her dog, Chaos, who is a major sweetie and did not fit his name at all!
After lunch on Friday, I went to my Meme's and Grampa's for a visit while Hubs went on a walk with his family- I would have gone, but I needed to get home for plans with Mum and wouldn't have had time. The plans were to go out with my Mom, Grama, and Aunt Beth for their weekly rendevous, which involves dinner and then hanging out at Borders. That's my kind of date night! Afterwards I went to a local bar to hang out with a friend, which is pretty much the Friday night ritual when I'm home.

On Saturday morning, Mom and I got up and went treasure hunting, which I will share more about tomorrow. On Saturday afternoon, a bunch of my family came to my parents' house for a BBQ and it was a great time. My cousin and her baby were there and, as usual, I was so happy to get my "fix" of baby lovins. On Saturday night I got to spend a few hours chatting, in person rather than through e-mail, with my bestie in all the land. Man I wish I could do that more often!Sunday was another full day. I got up and sat on the porch with Mum, reading and writing and chatting. Then Hubby called and asked if I was going to lunch at his aunt's, which I said yes to because it's a traditional Sunday event for his family. After lunch we met up with some friends at the local volleyball court and sat around in the sunshine before heading to dinner with two of our closest friends, the bestie from above and her boyfriend/Hubs' best man. Once we had stuffed ourselves beyond necessity and then added to that with creemees, we went to another of Hubby's aunts' houses for general hanging out with other friends and family. Finally, we went to my parents house, where Hubs passed out on the couch and I did a little rummaging and sorting in the basement with my Mum before it was time to go to bed. Then on Monday we drove back south. It was a full weekend, but that's how it has to be when you are spending limited time in a place you love. Each moment needs to be utilized in the best way possible, and to me that way is spending time outdoors in the sunshine, laughing and cherishing each moment, with family and friends.

Speaking of full, I think this post is quite long enough, so I'm going to hush up and sign off.

Blessings and Happy Wednesday!
