My husband really likes barbecue, and somewhere along the way he decided Memphis must have really good barbecue. He told me he wanted to go to Memphis to get some of their barbecue and that we should take a road trip over a long weekend to do so.
I looked into it and decided Memphis was too far to go over a long weekend, and of course flying is expensively out of the question. So, we compromised and we’re going to Nashville instead.
Our road trip starts early tomorrow morning. We’re driving to Louisville, KY tomorrow and we have tickets to go to Downs After Dark at Churchill Downs, which looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun!
On Saturday, we’re getting up and heading from Louisville to Lynchburg, TN to have lunch at our first BBQ spot of the weekend and then take the Jack Daniel’s Distillery tour.
After the tour, it’s up to Nashville. Our plans for the evening include hopefully getting into Jack’s for dinner and then going to one of the many cool bars right nearby the restaurant, like The Stage or Tootsie’s.
On Sunday, we may take a tour of Ryman Auditorium or the Country Music Hall of Fame- or both- and then it’ll be time to celebrate the 4th of July Nashville style at the "Let Freedom Sing” festival down on Broadway and at Riverfront Park. I’m sure there will be some great BBQ vendors, and we may even head to East Park for the Hot Chicken Festival. Then at about 6:45pm’ish, we’ll get cozy in our lawn chairs to watch Julianne Hough and Trace Adkins and then the fireworks accompanied by the Nashville Symphony.
I think it’s going to be a grand weekend and I’m really looking forward to all the fun we’ll have together. Check back on Tuesday for pics and ratings of the BBQ places we end up at!
