Today’s commute home was pretty much like any other. I was tired and thought getting home and cuddling up on the couch or even in bed would be quite grand. I also knew that would be a waste.
As I got closer to the condo, I told myself I’d get dressed to the shoes immediately upon arrival, before I talked myself out of productivity and into bed. After I checked the mail, as I was walking down the hall to our unit, I added a little prayer to help firm my determination.
I don’t know if you’re familiar with what I mean by getting “dressed to the shoes,” but it’s one of the foundation ideas of Fly Lady. It basically rides on the concept that your more likely to keep moving and not sit down on your bum if you’re dressed and wearing lace-up shoes, as opposed to wearing slip on shoes, socks, or no shoes at all along with PJs or comfy loungewear.
There really is something to it, because if I had come home and put on the latter, I would have been done for the night. Instead, I finished the items on my housekeeping list for the week and even got in a little work out and a refreshing shower before Casey got home.
I’m off to Philly to see my sister and my Mum tomorrow (so we can pack up the rest of my sister’s stuff as she wont be moving back there) and then Hubs and I are going to the rescheduled Brooks and Dunn concert on Sunday. With another busy weekend in the works, it was so beneficial to get all my duties done tonight because it will allow me to come back after both of those things and not have to worry about needing to tidy up to be comfortable and relaxed during the few free moments I might have.
It may seem like a small, simple thing, but just by putting on my lace-up shoes, I was able to get things done in preparation for a much more fulfilling weekend. I’m thankful to have such an easy tool to use to move forward, instead of sitting around stewing at the starting line.
