Evenings Spent

Mom and I have spent the last few evenings in her “studio.”  Studio is in quotes because she doesn’t quite commit to calling it that, though really that’s what it is: a room where creative undertakings occur.

This week, the creativity centers around sewing.  The first few nights were spent on a diaper bag, which was quite complicated even for an experienced sewer like my Mum, but it turned out amazingly.

Since the diaper bag was so complicated, I wasn’t able to help much.  Instead I spent the time, while she was cutting fabric and sewing, preparing some pages in my journal for writing and generally taking in the awesomeness of her creative space.

She calls it all her “crap,” but really it’s years worth of collecting and gathering her favorite things and putting them together in a room where she can then be inspired by them and take from the various stashes to create new and exciting things.

I love just looking around or sitting in this space, feeding off the energy of all the opportunities for creativity there are available.

And tonight, after finally helping out by cutting fabric this afternoon, I’ve sat in waiting for the completion of the crib skirt and bumpers, which I can’t wait to take home and put in place in the slowly but surely developing baby’s room!
