Casey and my sister installed our new laminate floors this weekend and it’s like a whole new house. As soon as the carpet was pulled up, before a board had even been laid, it felt cleaner and more comfortable. I am so thankful for their hard work and am already blissfully happy with having hard floors.
The project started Friday night when Casey pulled up the dining room half of the carpet and padding.
Lucy “helped” by rubbing up against the legs of the table while Casey pulled nail strips.
Karen stayed the night Friday night and they got up fairly early Saturday morning to pull up the rest of the carpet and nail strips, as well as sweep… both the floors and the kitty.
Soon the room was clear and it was time to get down to the serious business of laying the floors. Karen worked super hard on a particularly difficult corner, which included some interesting, whatever works positions for sawing the bottom of door frames.
The kitties weren’t sure what to do with all the noise at first, but eventually got comfortable enough to nap in various places on the little furniture left in the space… and, of course, in the only boxes to be found.
They made great progress on Saturday, working most of the day, and then worked half of Sunday, the final piece being cut and placed in the early afternoon.
The result is fantastic. At some point I’ll have pictures of the whole space, but right now things are pretty empty because Dad is planning to do the finishing work when he’s here next weekend and we don’t want to fill up the entertainment center, etc. just to empty it all again so he can move it.
So for now we have little décor, but awesome floors… which is so okay with me.
