In the beginning, I didn’t really have any desire to paint in the baby’s room. Sometime in the eighth month, though, I began to think about art for the large wall the crib was against and decided it might be easier to do a mural or paint treatment instead of filling it with hanging art. So I did some searching and found the below nursery image, which I used for inspiration (photo is linked to original source).
These people had were inspired by a quilt they received, which is actually last years version of a baby bedding line we received a few items from (the mobile and fuzzy blanket on the crib). They put in chair rails, which they painted above and below. We put in a white stripe and only painted above, keeping the lower part of the wall the original green color of the guest room.
The before:
Karen and Casey hard at work:
The in-between, with white stripe and blue above finished. We only did two walls, but it really brightened things up and I loved it even at this stage.
The final part of the project was my responsibility: the turtles. I had hoped to use the same kind of design as the original inspiration, with the quilted like backs, but Casey wasn’t into it. Instead I did swirls, inspired by the turtle we bought our little guy while on vacation in Virginia Beach this summer.

I have a few other art projects in mind. If I can get them done, I’ll share them in a post I plan to do next week showing the whole nursery.
