It’s Rainy, But.

storm

But I made cookies this weekend.

But I cleaned the bathroom yesterday.

But the bed is made, all ready to climb into for reading and cuddling later.

But I went to the gym today, for just fifteen minutes on the treadmill, but man it felt good.

But laundry is going and the dishes are done.

But my commute was not dreadful today.

But I ate salad for dinner, because I’m thankfully not confined to saltines – raspberry vinaigrette is one of my new favorite friends.

But this week is a short one, with Mom coming on Thursday for a visit, and life is good and I’m getting my groove back.

Yzma, Put Your Hands in the Air!

This afternoon, I had a serious case of the grumpy-mc-grumpersons.  Just after lunch, my mood took a swing for the worse and it was uncool.  I did my best to just hang low until it was time to come home and eventually departure time arrived.

To try to help myself cheer up, I stopped at the grocery on the way home and got a cucumber, a fancy European seedless one and everything, so I could make a delicious cucumber sandwich for dinner.

Then I got home and there was cat puke on the floor.  The story of my life.  I can’t imagine what I’ll do when I have puking babies and kitties all at once.  Yikes.

Anyways, I grabbed a blanket and went to lay on the couch, at which time I stepped in the wet spot where I had just sprayed cleaner on the puke spot.  At first I was like, “Oh, figures!”  And then I laughed because I thought it at least smelled a little better than my feet have smelled recently.  Is that a pregnancy symptom?  Seriously, stinky feet, also uncool.

But at least I laughed.  And then I got settled on the couch and a silly kids movie from my past is on Disney – “The Emperor’s New Groove.”  I haven’t seen it in years and I’m just going to cuddle up in a blanket, also a remnant from my childhood, and enjoy a little time with Pacha.

The First Gathering of “Camp”

The first Grammie Rose’s Camp event went wonderfully.  There were 14 women gathered, including Mom and I, and we had a great time chatting and creating.

Everyone brought Valentines to exchange and the at-event craft was making heart-shaped envelopes to bring them home in.  Even those with a little uncertainty about their ability dug right in, assembling their hearts with glitter, cut and pasted paper, doodling, and whatever else came to mind.

For nibbling, there were cupcakes with vintage Valentine images and sugar cookies with sprinkles, as well as fruit salad and a heart-shaped batch of lemon squares made by a guest.

I am really looking forward to seeing what Mom will come up with for the next gathering and I pray that Grammie Rose’s Camp continues to be as successful as this first event was.

Headed North

[PC200006.JPG]

I am headed to Vermont today for the long weekend.  I am so excited for the trip home and pray the traveling is good... aka, that there isn't too much traffic or precipitation.

This is not exactly a "just because" trip home and I am eager to attend a special event on Saturday morning.  My mom and I have discussed the idea of it for a long time and it has changed direction more than once.  But finally she has figured out her vision and it is time to execute.  The "project" is called Grammie Rose's Camp and you can learn a little more about it HERE.

It's going to be a great weekend filled with family and home comforts and I'm thankful for the opportunity and ability to go home for a few days.

Valentine’s Day

This year, Valentine’s Day was  as it should be: simple, inexpensive, thoughtful.  Casey is in busy season, so he did not come home until late.  His gift for me was a sweet card, filled out specially and sentimentally.

My gift for him was two boxes of Triscuits.  Now this may just sound like an ordinary snack, but we don’t really keep snacks in the house regularly, so it’s kind of a treat.  He loves them with melted cheese and a sprinkle of Tabasco, and since I’ll be away this weekend, I thought it’d be a nice thing to have… probably for most of his meals, because he’s strange like that.

I also made us a raspberry pie, with little hearts poked out in the top.  It was a good love day.  Of course, with Casey, I consider most every day one of those.  Yeah, yeah, I know, mushy mushy.
