Yesterday was the big day- Hubs and I went to get a tree! I kind of wanted to go to where you can pick and cut your own, but it was late in the afternoon by the time we got around to going and so we decided to go pre-cut. We stopped at a new place, but they were a bit pricey and had very little selection. So we moved on to the place we got our tree two years ago and we walked around until Hubby found The One. It had a few broken limbs, but we don't judge. It was the perfect shape for where we wanted to put it- a little taller and less full than trees from years past.
Here it is!

All opened up and ready for trimming:
My job: lights and garland. We were going to do color lights, but we didn't have enough and in an effort to save some dollars, we decided we'd buy more after Christmas (when they are mucho on sale) for next year.
Hubby's job: make pizza! YUM!!!! He handmade the dough before we left to get the tree so it could rise and then he put everything together when we got back while I put the lights and garland on the tree.
The tree complete:
I will share tomorrow about ornaments. We have a few that involve tradition and are very special, but I didn't want to make this post incredibly long.
As yesterday marked the second week of Advent, I also updated the manger with Mary and Joseph.
I ate my breakfast by the light of the tree this morning and I just love it. There is just something about the glow of a lit Christmas tree when it is dark outside- maybe it's that feeling from my childhood when we'd wake up when it was still dark and Mom would go down and light the tree before we went down and then when we got downstairs it would be lit and ready for a morning of giving and memory making. It's definitely a feeling of comfort.
More tomorrow! Happy Monday!

Christie, thank you for sharing your traditions. I love the light from the tree too. Though, I must say I have not eaten my breakfast under it. :)
