Go Patriots!

No, I don't mean pretty boy Brady and the New England Patriots. I'm talking about the George Mason Patriots. The men's basketball team of my college alma mater. Tonight was the season home opener and "we" absolutely demolished the Brown Bears with a final score of 89-52. The returning players look as good as ever and we've got some newbies that look like they are going to be great contributors. And the best part about a new basketball season means game nights (also known as nights out) with Hubby. Basketball has always been an important part of our life together- after all, without having basketball in common we probably never would have started dating. With memories of high school floating happily about my mind, let's take it back to Hubby's "senior night"...

Hee hee, so young! And him with much longer facial hair!

The only bad part about tonight was that they replaced the long time mascot for Mason with a new, more modern mascot. Hubby is not impressed... at all. Maybe the new guy will grow on him, but it seems unlikely.

Below is Gunston, the former mascot. Sure nobody really knows what he is, besides a furry green creature named after where George Mason lived, but he was definitely loved by the student body. Fortunately, they haven't gotten rid of him completely and he will apparently continue to make various appearances. In the meantime, we'll see how long it takes for the student section to stop booing the dude above.

Today not only included the first home game of Mason's basketball season, it also included another first for me. It was my first time this year hearing the bell.

The bell? What the heck is this crazy lady talking about?

I'm talking about the Salvation Army bell. There the guy was, ringing the bell while I ran errands today. I dutifully pulled all the change out of my wallet and made my donation. Although I'm not sure I'm happy about it being so soon! I know Thanksgiving is only just over a week away, but still! It can't be Salvation Army bell time already!

Today was a good Monday and a good start to the week... except for when I went to go to the gym (yay me!) and realized I left my sneakers at home (dumb me!). Aw well, I'll definitely remember them tomorrow and I'll be busting my butt to make going to the gym a routine again... but even more than before.

So, Happy Monday and have a fabulous rest of the week!

Christie, I have to say I cannot relate too much with the sports stuff.Sorry.
Working with folks that rely on services like the Salvation Army, and knowing that many are going without this season, I know why they are starting so early. The resources just are not there, for everyone, not just the poor. So, there is a need to start early to see how far the resources can go. I will say "thank you" from the families I work with, whether they get services from Salvation Army or not. Every penny makes a difference...
Love you. :)
