How do you get your kicks?!
I go on "kicks." Thinking about it with this term evokes AC/DC lyrics. I love AC/DC and wish I could have afforded to pay for Hubs and I to see them in D.C. But I couldn't. And they sold out real fast anyways.
What I mean by "kicks" is that I get inspired by something and then spend the rest of the afternoon looking up photos and further inspiration on the www. Today my "kick" was fashion... or my lack there of. I mean, I look nice (most of the time), but in general my style is not nearly what I'd like it to be. I decided I would like new black boots, so let's see if I can get my stingy self to pay for some in the next few weeks. Looking for pictures of how I want to wear my new boots found me at a "what I wore" blog, which I spent the rest of the afternoon looking at. I've seen these types of blogs before, but only just in passing, never for purpose. The one I spent most of my afternoon checking the archives of was What I Wore Today. She makes some more classic clothing look unique with awesome accessories and punches of color. Some of her outfits are way beyond me and what I like, but a lot of them I really loved and will keep in mind when (IF) I go shopping to add to my own wardrobe. Problem is, hence the IF, I really don't like spending money on clothes, so who knows when I'll actually "grow-up" my wardrobe. My Mom will scold me for that because she thinks I should have a clothing allowance built into my budget. She's probably right. I'll work on it Mom, I promise. :)
Other "what I wore blogs" that I saw yesterday were: Blog Fashion (liked a lot of her outfits too) and What I Wore (too many ankle boots for me).
The evening was cleaning a bit in the zone, making dinner, playing Yahtzee, and then of course watching House. I shined the sink and was pleased that even Hubby noticed. It looked good... although I commenced to filling it with dirty dishes from making dinner. I would say I should have shined it afterwards, but that would have screwed up the groove of my evening. Dinner was a favorite called chicken-ala-kenni. I feel that I cannot explain it's workings without photo-demonstration, so at some point when I make it in the future I'll share the ingredients and photo-steps.
Hubby and I ate dinner at the table. I am ready to do that more often because I love it. It's nice to have the TV off and just sit at a table with real plates and even a candle. I think I might spend some gift card money for some new placemats and napkins so we can have a little variety... well, so I can have a little variety, I doubt Hubby cares much about the placemats. After dinner we played Yahtzee. I suggested it in an effort to spend some more time with him without the TV on. It was fun... even though he beat me two games out of three. It was even a family affair because the kitties observed the game play- Lucy from the chair and Gracie underneath the table wondering what the heck all that racket was. Dice are loud on a wood table in an open living space like ours.
I am glad to have been inspired today, as well as to have enjoyed a great evening with my little family. I can't wait for more evenings like it this winter to help me get through the cold and I-miss-Vermontness.
